Aretha Franklin Sings Opera — "Nessun Dorma" aria from 'Turandot' by Puccini 🎤 Grammys 1998

In an unexpected moment at the 40th Grammys, Aretha Franklin performs Luciano Pavarotti's hit, Nessun Dorma, aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot" with choir and orchestra, when Pavarotti is unable to attend as scheduled and perform his signature song. Aretha's incredible performance gets a standing ovation. Then Aretha and Sting present the Legends Award on behalf of Pavarotti in the second segment. Introduction by Sting.  

 

Luciano Pavarotti's rendition of Giacomo Puccini's aria, "Nessun Dorma" from the opera "Turandot", was the theme song of the BBC coverage of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. The aria achieved pop status internationally and became his trademark song.
